It may be the same old thing, yet seeing Rafa Nadal win a significant championship WHILST wearing a watch doesn’t get any less cool. Last evening, Señor Nadal beat world No. 1 Novak Djokovic to win the US Open. He did so wearing the Richard Mille RM27-01, which is the successor to the first (and very awesome) RM27, seen here in the metal .
The RM27-01 is a (super) lightweight watch with a development that is completely held in suspension. The baseplate is actually attached to the case by four plaited steel cables just .35mm in diameter. The tourbillon caliber was specifically intended to withstand Nadal’s swing force of around 5,000G. Oh, and it weighs not exactly a few pieces of paper – 19 grams to be specific. Also, that is with the velcro strap. The RM27-01 was previewed at SIHH this year and just fifty will be made. The price is, you gotten it, $690,000. More subtleties here .
Did you Know?
Nadal wasn’t the lone part in the Open wearing a piece of haute horlogerie WHILE he played. Swiss-conceived Stanislas Wawrinka was actually wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph all through the whole tournament.
