Later this month we will commemorate the 50th commemoration of the death of United States President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas. Here we have a watch owned by JFK himself, with his initials and the date he received the watch engraved on the first bracelet. This is a perfect case of an unassuming vintage watch that has a stunning story to tell.
New Hampshire auction house RR Auction is currently hanging on online offer of numerous JFK-related things to commemorate the President’s 1963 death. The auction concludes on November 13th and among the 288 parts is this Bulova watch owned and worn by President Kennedy before he was president.
JFK 1941 Engraving
Originally given to JFK by an intrigued woman with regards to 1941 at a Washington, DC supper, the Bulova was fitted with a stretch bracelet with a little, curved plate at the base – perfect for etching. Kennedy has “JFK 1941” inscribed outwardly of the plate and today is as yet crisp and exceptionally decipherable. Kennedy cracked the crystal on different occasions, which is why today it is completely open-faced.
The pink dial and gold numerals are fit as a fiddle for a watch of this age, especially considering there is no crystal. The blued steel hour hand however is severed at the base, while the other two hands are intact. The 22mmx36mm case has 10k gold plate with a treated steel case back. Inside is the physically wound 8AE caliber with 17 jewels.
