Introducing The Zenith El Primero Lightweight, A New Take On The Striking Tenth –

Here at HODINKEE we’re large aficionados of Zenith’s Striking Tenth Chronograph (you can peruse the entire Week on the Wrist review here ). Now Zenith presents a new understanding of the Striking Tenth, the El Primero Lightweight, which utilizes new materials to construct a lighter development and case while keeping all that power. Like the Striking Tenth, this one is a restricted version and here we have all the subtleties.

The first El Primero development appeared in 1969 in the Zenith A386 , inarguably perhaps the main chronographs ever. In 2010, the Striking Tenth came on the scene, again pushing limits while keeping a great deal of the esthetic cues found in the A386. Now the El Primero Lightweight takes all the capabilities of the Striking Tenth and places them in a cutting-edge package.

This starts with the development. Titanium plates and silicon wheels and switches make the development incredibly lightweight yet strong – it weighs in at 15.45g, while the Striking Tenth’s development is 21.10g. This 25% difference probably won’t seem as though a ton, however 5g in a watch is something any wearer will notice. This is the first run through Zenith has constructed the El Primero in titanium.

The Special Lightweight El Primero Movement

Although the thought was to cut down on weight, Zenith chose to make the El Primero Lightweight physically bigger than the Striking Tenth. Estimated at 45mm, it’s difficult to accept the case is lighter than that of the 42mm Striking Tenth, however it is. This is achieved through a blend of materials, including carbon (external case), ceramised aluminum (internal case components), and titanium (pushers). The hauls are openworked to cut down on mass and the tie is lightweight elastic and a synthetic fiber called Nomex. This carbon case is another first for Zenith.

The dial keeps the tri-color configuration associated with these historic El Primero watches, however both the primary dial and the date ring are openworked to additional cut down on wasted mass.

The El Primero Lightweight is restricted to just 100 pieces worldwide, priced at $22,000. For all the subtleties, visit Zenith on the web .
