There are a great deal of horological commemorations in 2013, however one you probably won’t have heard much about yet is the 30th commemoration of Francois-Paul Journe making his absolute first watch. To observe, F.P. Journe is delivering the restricted version Historical Anniversary Tourbillion, a recognition for that absolute first tourbillon pocket watch completed back in 1983. This watch looks not at all like F.P. Journe’s later manifestations, yet it is quite a stunner.
The First F.P. Journe Pocketwatch From 1983
Francois-Paul Journe started working on his first watch from scratch in 1977. He had moved on from watchmaking school and was working in Paris with his uncle, Michel, reestablishing timekeepers and watches. He was especially enamored with antique tourbillons and chosen to set out making his own, utilizing his uncle’s apparatuses on evenings and weekends. It required barely five years and in 1983 the watch was at last wrapped up.

For his 30th commemoration, F.P. Journe chose to make an advanced wristwatch accolade for his unique tourbillon pocketwatch. This beginnings with a 40mm rose gold and guilloché silver case, reflecting the gold and silver instance of the first. The grained silver dial’s design is additionally the equivalent, with a huge hours/minute dial crossed by a generous auxiliary seconds register, the previous with Roman numerals and the last with Arabic numerals. To one side is F.P. Journe’s mark and to one side “Invenit et Fecit” replaces the “A. Paris” you can see on the pocket watch.
