Why This Watch Matters

When Georges Kern left his perch at Richmont the previous summer to take over Breitling, most industry spectators saw the move as a chance for the business veteran to turn Breitling around. As we can see from this first assortment – which remembers a for house chronograph, a Valjoux-based chronograph, a period just variation, a Unitime, just as this watch with day and date – Kern’s first line of Breitlings come with unmistakable vintage looks and a name, Navitimer 8, that associates back to the company’s historical eight-day cockpit instruments. Curiously, what this recently launched assortment does not incorporate is the E6B roundabout slide rule – utilized by pilots to ascertain fuel utilization, in addition to other things – that most watch darlings quickly think of when they hear the name Navitimer.
